The Psychobilly Kadillaks "Pity the Shape I'm In" (2004)

Psychobilly / Rockabilly / Country
Location - UK

| Artist - The Psychobilly Kadillaks
| Album - Pity the Shape I'm In

| Released - 2004

| Genre - Psychobilly / Rockabilly

Review

Born from blood, sweat and Pabst, Psychobilly Kadillaks have been raising hell in bars and clubs across the midwest since 1999. Armed with an arsenal of originals and covers about love, hate, freedom, incarceration, whiskey, gin, railroads, hot rods, hard times, gluttony, marriage, adultery, divorce, heartbreak, damnation, salvation and the only two things that make life worth livin', the Kadillaks' raw style of outlaw country music draws thirsty crowds everywhere they play. From Cash to Coe, from Jerry Lee to Waylon, the Kadillaks' influences have helped them forge a sound reminiscent of a runaway train with an attitude problem. Check 'em out at a joint near you.

Shakeout "Top of the world" (1997)

Psychobilly
Location - UK

| Artist - Shakeout
| Album - Top of the world

| Released - 1997

| Genre - Psychobilly / Rockabilly

Review

"This release has a strong 'indie' feel and means that Shakeout have hopefully lost forever the Guana Batz wannabe's label. Apart from two covers all the songs are by the band. 'Going home' is my favourite where the boys really let rip. Another corker is 'Full Moon Saturday Night' - just try to get that tune out of your head. I hope this does well as it is a fresh slant on psychobilly music and that in itself must be a mission after 17 years!" S.Nott / Bedrock Bugle / May '97

Frantic Flintstones "Rock It Boy" (2000)

Psychobilly / Rockabilly
Location - UK / Brazil

| Artist - Frantic Flintstones
| Album - Rock It Boy

| Released - 2000

| Genre - Psychobilly / Rockabilly

Review

A great selection of tracks with Chuck Harvey and The Frantic Flintstones rockin' 'n' stompin' at their very best.
While the Frantic Flintstones are one of the most popular bands in psychobilly - a genre that I'm not particularly fond of - on this album they play some pretty good (neo-)rockabilly.
A well-produced album with clean sound - except for Track 14, which sounds as if it had been recorded with a portable cassette player sometime in 1985.
All in all, a good chance to catch these Flintstones in a less Frantic mood.

The Deltas "Boogie Disease" (1981)

Psychobilly / Rockabilly
Location - US

| Artist - The Deltas
| Album - Boogie Disease

| Released - 1981

| Genre - Psychobilly / Rockabilly

Review

"Rumored to be one of the wildest bands of the early 80's, The Deltas play their own unique brand of Rockabilly with a hint of blues influence. 'Boogie Disease' was recorded in the height and prime of The Deltas reign over the early 80's Rockabilly Scene. The Deltas are still gigging and playing around. Rumor even has it some new studio stuff might be in the works. Let's hope so! This is a definite classic and early release by one of the best Rockabilly bands to show its face in the 1980's! 16 great tracks along with Nervous Records' great packaging make this a MUST addition to anyone's collection!" Elvis Presley "The Essential Elvis Presley" (2007)

Rock'n'Roll / Rockabilly
Location - US

| Artist - Elvis Presley
| Album - The Essential Elvis Presley

| Released - 2007

| Genre - Rock'n'Roll / Rockabilly

Review

Sure, there are more than a few Elvis anthologies out there and, yes, there is nothing on this set that isn't readily available on a few hundred other compilations, but this one is noteworthy in its own way, and a great collection as well. Focusing less on hits than on great performances, "Essential Elvis" gathers a handful of Sun sides, the best of his early RCA output and acclaimed sides from throughout his career. You get the best of Elvis' many hits as well as critically-acclaimed album tracks ("Reconsider Baby", "Trouble", the live "Polk Salad Annie"), and that, for once, is a unique concept in Elvis reissues. Everyone will have differing opinions on what should or shouldn't have been included, and tob sure sure some great tracks have been left out, but this is a whale of a great collection of "essential" Elvis.

The Hel-Gators "The Curse" (2008)

Rockabilly / Garage
Location - Finland

| Artist - The Hel-Gators
| Album - The Curse

| Released - 2008

| Genre - Rockabilly / Garage

Review

Rockabilly Voodoo trio The Hel-Gators are basically a Rockabilly trio influenced by the 1950s wildmen. They play wild Rockabilly with the craziness of the genre emphasised, much like the early Cramps and Meteors did in the 80s. In a time when Psychobilly has become equally influenced by Punk and Metal, it's refreshing to hear The Hel-Gators take the genre back to it's Rockabilly roots. Excellent!.

Dicemen "Boogieman" (2004)

Psychobilly / Rockabilly
Location - Netherlands

| Genre - Psychobilly / Rockabilly

Review

Dicemen - Boogieman (CD single) Royal3 Records Frank: Is it rockabilly? NO! Is it sixties garage punk? NO! Is it rock 'n roll? NO! It is....it is.... IT'S THE DICEMEN! Signing these gents must have been a stroke of genius on the part of the Eindhoven label Royal3 Records, because the Dicemen rock! With a contagious mix of rock'n roll a la Chuck Berry, sixties garage punk and psychobilly in the likes of the Nekromantix Dicemen KC (vocals and guitar), Peter Vogeli (bass) and Jonathan van der Haak (drums) prove that they are not to be taken for granted in the future. The single 'Boogieman' is the prelude to the debut-album 'A Thing Called Rock and Roll' which hits the streets in September. And although there are some minor details which need a little improvement (like the somewhat bleak bass sound) I for one look forward to that album. The music of the Dicemen is full-blooded live music, which is very hard to reproduce in a studio environment, but the band does a fine job. The Dicemen pour their honest love of rock 'n roll into the record and it is that feeling which makes this release so enjoyable.
